Remembering Hissy

Fifteen years ago, a stray cat gave us the wonderful gift of baby kittens at Haverty Hollow. The smallest one was the feistiest one, and we named her Hissy. For fifteen years she has brought pleasure and smiles to all of the children who have known her, during the school year and during Frog Hollow Camp. A few weeks ago she became ill. We all hoped she would get better, but unfortunately, she did not make it. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our sweet girl kitty. She will be missed so much, but will live on in our fond memories. We called her our kitty, but probably she thought of all of us as her humans. But the love between us all was strong! Remembering with love, Lisa Haverty

Nature Hut Spring Cleaning

Mr. John and Miss Molly joined the forces of our first- and second-grade Friendship Club members this Spring to repair and renovate Haverty Hollow’s Nature Hut. It’s used as a gathering place for our celebrated nature walks and science activities. Mr. John reports lots of cooperation, as “the children have really enjoyed working together” to clear the area around the Hut and line the path to it with stones. Mr. John cut and spliced bamboo the children helped install as new walls for the Hut. (Photo courtesy Denise Aldridge.)
